Cambridge, UK - November 14th, 2012: Leading small cell developer and manufacturer today confirmed its partnership with Azerfon to deploy picocells in Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Azerbaijan and also onto Azal Airlines’ aircraft operating from the capital’s airport.
Nar Mobile has now become the first mobile company in Azerbaijan to offer in-flight mobile communication services - on board of the Azerbaijan Airlines fleet.
The partnership will now allow passengers flying to or from Baku on Azal flights – to be able to make and receive calls, send SMS and surf the internet from their own mobile phones using the on board Nar Mobile network. As announced earlier this year, leading inflight connectivity provider OnAir is providing Azerfon with the technical solution for this project.
Announcing the partnership, ip.access CEO, Mr. Simon Brown said: “The experience and success we have had working with other airlines made ip.access a natural choice for this deployment. The nature of our solution and the ability of our system to integrate with other vendors has accelerated the introduction of these new services.”
Mr. Timucin Kutar, Azerfon’s CTO highlighted the work and the speed of the partners delivering the project. “Heydar Aliyev airport is one of the busiest international airports in the region and its position makes it a popular locale for transferring passengers,” he said. “By quickly delivering this project, ip.access will help us provide in-flight GSM coverage for Voice, SMS and Data Access for some million passengers while they are in the air journey with Azal’s aircrafts.”
Headquartered in the United Kingdom, ip.access has been deploying small cell solutions for over 10 years providing more than 90 customers around the world with the capability to accelerate the introduction of small cell solutions into their networks irrespective of use case, technology or deployment model.
The company’s success is built upon its ability to provide its Service Provider customers with a range of small cell solutions across all technologies (2G, 3G, and 4G), alongside a deployment philosophy that integrates the small cell access points with converged access gateways and comprehensive network management and performance tools.
The methodology and solution capability provided by ip.access enables its customers to better manage the economic challenges of delivering against ever more demanding coverage and capacity requirements. This, along with the ease of integration to higher order management solutions and the robust and elegant macro network interaction reduces the ‘cycle time’ from installation to commercial service.
In addition, ip.access has focused diligently on providing the intelligence and application layer to enable its customers to deliver rapid monetisation of their small cell deployments, driving new and complimentary revenue streams to further enhance the small cells business case.
ip.access counts Amadeus Capital Partners, Cisco, Intel Capital, Qualcomm, Rothschild, Scottish Equity Partners and TE Connectivity among its shareholders.
