Robert Langmead’s Kingsbridge Estates to breathe new life into Chichester landmark

Planning permission for restaurant in historic 40 North Street

June 14th 2011 - A landmark building in Chichester, UK, is set for a new lease of life after local property developer Kingsbridge Estates secured planning permission for a £2 million refurbishment.

The development company, owned by local businessman Robert Langmead, is already in talks with several high quality restaurant operators about creating a restaurant and offices in the grade II* listed 40 North Street.

Robert Langmead, Managing Director of Kingsbridge Estates, said: “40 North Street is one of Chichester’s most historic buildings in an important part of the city and we have worked very closely with the planning authorities at Chichester District Council to provide a sensitive and attractive refurbishment.

“The rebirth of 40 North Street has been managed by us with agents Aston Rose to retain all of the building’s attractive and historic character, while creating something new for Chichester city centre.

“We look forward to providing Chichester with new commercial premises ready for occupation by October.”

40 North Street, which dates to the 19th Century, was previously owned by West Sussex County Council. It was purchased by Kingsbridge Estates in February, with planning permission for change of use from private home to commercial premises being granted on 1 June.

Kingsbridge Estates has alternative planning permission to use 40 North Street entirely for offices. Architects for the refurbishment are Miller Hughes Associates of Chichester.
