27th September 2011: Ambitious new tech start-ups, inventors and budding entrepreneurs only have one month left to enter the Cambridge Wireless Discovering Start-Ups 2011 competition and get the chance to pitch to leading venture capitalists, angels and industry investors. Representatives from Microsoft, RIM, Nokia, Vodafone Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Innovacom, Broadcom, Orange and ARM are among those lining up to pick the winners and provide expert advice.
“Win or lose, where else would you get the chance to get in front of 25 of the world’s leading investors in one day,” said Dr. Soraya Jones, CEO of Cambridge Wireless. “With just a month to go we hope that more start-ups, early-stage companies as well as design groups, students and academics will see the opportunity to showcase their big ideas.”
Some of the latest entrants to Discovering Start-Ups include: the App damon mobile discovery application that recommends apps based on interests and preferences; Talking Eye, with the world’s first mobile telecoms intercom/doorbell monitoring device; a high-performance, self-organising microwave backhaul system designed to help solve the mobile data explosion from Cambridge Communications; and Qiqqa – software that helps researchers manage and extract maximum value from large volumes of research materials.
Now in its second year and once again supported by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), Discovering Start-Ups also rewards the winners with cash prizes and free business and consultancy services. The competition is free to enter for companies in the East of England or Cambridge Wireless members nationally by going to www.cambridgewireless.co.uk/discoveringstartups.
The closing date for entries is 28 October. Judging takes place on 8th December 2011 and the winners will be announced that evening at the Cambridge Wireless prestigious Founders' Dinner Awards Ceremony.
